PASSION AND PURPOSE

My name is Stephen Dexter, Senior Piano Technician at Northern Arizona University and the University of Redlands. Born into a musical family and raised on classical music, I have a deep appreciation for all kinds of music and musicians. Guided by my Uncle, a seasoned technician with over 50 years of experience, I learned his skills for tuning pianos aurally and mastered the art of concert voicing.

I immersed myself in the world of piano repair with an apprenticeship at the oldest continuously operated piano repair shop in Arizona, now called Ley Piano Company. Over the course of several years while literally living at the shop, I not only refined my tuning abilities but gained expertise in piano moving and completely rebuilding them.

Recently hired as the Senior Piano Technician at Northern Arizona University, I bring a unique set of skills and concert level precision to the events held in Kitt Recital Hall, Ardrey Auditorium, and many other concert venues in Northern Arizona. My dedication to the craft, built on the foundation of family and refined through hands-on apprenticeship, allows me to serve as a trusted custodian of the instruments in my care and a trusted friend to the pianists that I work with.
